Anfield Nights #1

The stage was set. Quarter final of the European cup. Both teams hotly fancied to go all the way.

St. Etienne held a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, the tie set up perfectly.

Many knocked off work early to get to the stadium and the atmosphere began to build.

As if the stadium wasn't rocking enough, Kevin Keegan levelled up the tie less than a minute in. Anfield erupted!!

The French began to impose themselves on the game however. So much so they levelled the game and took the lead in the tie with a 30 yard screamer.

Allez Les Verts rang around the stadium from the 5,000 french fans. Liverpool needed two goals to advance.

The run in the European Cup looked to be up for the reds. David Fairclough began to warm up.

Like that Kennedy scored to give Liverpool a lifeline. The decibel levels went through the roof. The fans were in the thick of it now. Fairclough was ready and entered the fray.

6 minutes remained on the clock. Time running out, Fairclough sprung past the French defence and slotted the winner. Anfield erupted like never before. This was one of those famous Anfield nights.

Many say it's the most famous and loudest night in Anfield. The image of Fairclough pirouetting after he'd sent Liverpool to the semi final of the European Cup will forever be etched in the club's history!
